Has anybody successfully upgraded SuSE 10.0 with MySQL5? If so, which route did you take? Prebuilt RPM? Source? Any hints, please? -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

Noone? Really?
Did you try the packages from the factory? http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source... If they can't be installed directly (openssl for example has been upgraded in factory, that might present a dependency problem) the src.rpm can usually be rebuilt easily

Can't say that I find any MySQL5 packages at all there.... Neither binary nor source...

They're in there. mysql-shared presents a problem, since other packages (php4-mysql for example) haven't been compiled against it, so there are a number of packages that will need to be rebuilt for the new version

Would that be necessary with PHP5 as well? -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

Don't know yet, I haven't tried those, but given that the php5 packages are 3 days older than the mysql 5 packages, I wouldn't be surprised

Judging from the throughput currently available to individual downloads from ftp.opensuse.org, you'll be waiting no matter what you decide...

I know, but those belong to a class of packages I like to call "damn, I have a headache"-packages. If you upgrade them, you usually have to upgrade just about everything else as well

Don't know where my comment e-mail to this ended. In the garbage collector ?. I asked if MySQL5 was update with Yast, Yast would have taken care of all the upgrade ? Erik Jakobsen

If the packages existed, yes it would. Unfortunately, the packages currently in factory haven't been recompiled yet to handle mysql 5, so there is nothing there for YaST to install. When they are there, yes, YaST would be able to handle it But installing from factory isn't something to be done lightly, it is the bleeding edge, so don't expect a safe, warm, fuzzy feeling in there

I just installed the factory version, and it's running well. I don't think you will have any dependency problems either
