More xinetd and proftpd
The problem (see below) with xinetd and proftpd (RPM installs) seems to be the IPv6 support that xinetd comes compiled with in the RPM. From /var/log/messgaes: Oct 23 10:56:24 a004194 xinetd[1825]: xinetd Version 2.1.8.8p3 started with ipv6 libwrap loadavg options compiled in. The problem occurs even though in the service control configuration you use "protocol = tcp" and even though "Access control is functional with IPv6. You can use ipv4 mapped addresses, or give normal dotted quad ipv4 addresses for access control, and xinetd will map them to ipv6 addresses." I downloaded the latest source from http://www.xinetd.org/ and recompiled xinetd without IPv6 support: ./configure --with-libwrap=/usr/lib --with-loadavg make I then stopped the xinetd daemon, manually moved xinetd to /usr/sbin, and restarted the daemon: Oct 23 11:32:41 a004194 xinetd[5154]: xinetd Version 2.3.3 started with libwrap loadavg options compiled in. and all is well. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to get proftpd to work with xinetd. Proftpd works with inetd, but with xinetd I can login, but always get errors like the below when issuing a command:
ftp> ls 500 Illegal PORT command. ftp: bind: Address already in use
