I personally think this is excellent news, and I also see Linux 2.5 shapinig up to be _very_ feature-filled. Better SMP would be awesome too, as well as modulizing everything (e.g., TCP/IP, etc.). One question though: does SuSE package their kernels with the preemptive patch? If not, why? I think they should... (BTW, I don't know because I compile my own.) -- Karol Pietrzak PGP KeyID: 3A1446A0

SuSE does not include the preempt patch or the low latency patch in their kernels right now. They have made some fairly major changes in the VM code though and included the international kernel crypto patch (at least for twofish). Now that preempt is in the mainline, they may include it in their next release. I too think this is a good thing. Keith -- bourne-again believer, heretic

If you want the Low Latency patch: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/suse-patches I got the ll 2.4.17 patch to work with Mantel's 2.4.17 kernel. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8Z9rO+FOexA3koIgRAnLGAJ4iATC2U56CSMb92XAgzDGN5R/MiQCgicK9 JfNqCKqLYKBgoS1446ZUZ2w= =/QRY -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
