Use Yast and do a search on "make".........you'll find it to install. Fred -- "Running Windows on a Pentium is like getting a Porsche but only being able to drive it in reverse with the handbrake on."
make-3.80-184.i586.rpm on CD 1.

Did you buy 9.1 Pro? I did, and didn't find it. That's why I asked. However, I was able to find it on the CD. This is not the first time, that Yast has been unable to find something that should be there.

$ which make /usr/bin/make $ rpm -qf /usr/bin/make make-3.80-184
It wasn't installed on my system, and Yast couldn't find it. I was able to find it myself on CD1, using pin. Seems Yast is missing a few things.

Yes, I've got the full boxed set. I was able to find it on the CD, but I'm curious as to why Yast couldn't find it.

Lots of fun. I'm trying to install Kismet. 1) Needed flex - downloaded 2) Needed make - on CD but Yast doesn't know about it 3) Need yacc - pin knows about it, says it's on CD1 in bison-1, but not there - Yast doesn't know about it. Incidentally, I have to install Kismet from tarball, because the version in SuSE 9.1 doesn't recognize my WiFi NIC, even though it had worked, prior to installing SuSE.

Are you *certain* that Yast does not know about it? yacc-91.7.30-768.i586.rpm Yacc is a parser generator. "bison -y" should act exactly the same. bison-1.75-113.i586.rpm Bison is a parser generator similar to yacc(1). -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Not running 9.1 at this moment, so I can't check. Is make part of the gcc compiler package?

Apparently, they're on the DVD, but not the CDs nor the ftp site I had configured in Yast. They're installed now, and so is Kismet.

Jim, If you installed from the ISO image as I did, make, g++, and many other packages are no longer part of the regular release. I had to fetch and install these myself. Babu --- rkimber@ntlworld.com wrote:

Wouldn't that be the "Personal" version you're referring to? The are on the "Professional" DVD, but not everything is on the CDs.

The ISO image is the Personal version. The Pro version, in the boxed set includes development stuff.
Point YAST to a SuSE mirror and you can install all the development stuff as well as a lot of other things directly from YaST. Or you can use red-carpet/apt/yum whatever. /Erik On Sat, 2004-09-04 at 00:22, babu walad wrote:
