Dear fellow SuSE fans (sometimes a little bit victim!!) I have a Dynalink 1456 intern PCI modem, a conexant SoftK56 data, fax, TAMPCI modem with Vendor ID = 127a and Device ID = 1025 on my computer. After installation of SuSE 9.0 and configuration of Kinternet, as given below, and configuration of the modem with Yast as ppp0 I could not make contact with my provider. No way! I tried to install hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt03091800free_k2.4.20_4GB-1suse-i586 from Linuxant but got the message "existing driver modules found under /lib/modules/2.4.21-99-athlon/misc/" where I found 8 files hsf*.0 In information center I got the following: PCI 00:07.0 Communication controller Rockwell International HCF 56k Data/Fax?Voice/Spkp Subsystem: Rockwell International HCF 56k Data/Fax?Voice/Spkp(w/Handset)Modem Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10 Memory at dffe0000 (32-bit, non prefetchable)(size = 64k) I/O ports at c 400 [size = 8] Capabilities: <availble only to root> Meanwhile a understood from the Linuxant site that my modem could run under a hcf or a hsf driver Can anybody tell me what to do? Thanks, Andre den Oudsten The Kinternet configuration looks now as follows: ask-password no auto-dns yes auto-reconnect no auto-reconnect-delay 15 auto-reconnect-exits 8 baud-rate 56700 chat-script wvdial connection-type modem default-route yes demand no device /dev/modem dial-command ATDT dns1 dns2 endpoint random idle-seconds 300 ifcfg-filename ifcfg-ppp0 init1 ATZ init2 AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 init8 ATMT local-ip max-number-of-links 1 modify-dns yes modify-ip yes multilink no password <hidden> phone 0676002505 pppd-options ppp-mode ppp provider-filename provider0 remote-ip stupid-mode no username andredo wvdial.conf looks as follows: [Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/modem Baud = 57600 Init1 = ATZ Init2 = AT Q0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 Init3 = Area Code = Phone = Username = Password = Ask Password = Dial Command = ATDT Stupid Mode = 1 Compuserve = 0 Force Address = Idle Seconds = 300 Dial Message1 = Dial Message2 = ISDN = 0 Auto DNS = 1

[Rest deleted] If you have an HCF modem then you need the HCF driver and if you have an HSF modem then you need the HSF driver. From what you show above you have an HCF modem The FREE driver you downloaded will limit you to only 14.4Kb and not the full speed the modem is capable. Therefore you need to "spend a penny" and buy the FULL version of the Linuxant driver. And don't forget - this is important - you need to download the CORRECT driver to match EXACTLY the kernel version/type you have in your computer. It's all there, spelt out, on the Linuxant website. Cheers. -- Wagner's music is really not as bad as it sounds.
