RE: [SLE] New Kernel compilation on 8.2 Pro
Many thanks for the info - that's certainly a good starting point. (OT) Could I just mention that I've inadvertantly hijacked a message thread (not visible in all mail clients, it would seem) - Chadley Wilson sent a message entitled "Evolution 1.4 contact list problems" to which I initially replied, but deleted content and gave it a new subject. In my mail client (OL2003) this isn't showing, but it is in his (presumably Evolution). Could I just apologise to Chadley and encourage any Evo users to have a quick read over his mail again ;) Thanks again folks.
Unlike red hat, SuSE's patches don't break binary compatibility with the kernel.org kernels. I ran many kernel.org kernels on 8.2 and never experienced any problems with applications. The patches you are most likely to notice as missing are the framebuffer graphics on console 1 and the initial boot message logging (the system will complain about a missing TIOCGDEV, the patch can be found at http://infolinux.de/jp/), but aside from missing graphics on the console and missing boot log, your system should run just fine

That is exactly how a thread hijack is done, regardless of the email client you/we use. Always post your _new_ emails by using the "new email" command of your command. Also, use "reply to list", if available, to answer, or if not available, "reply to all" and delete the original poster address. There is a plugin or whatever for OL to facilitate that, I think. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Is there any difference between that, and just changing the reply address to the list? For example, in this message, I hit reply and changed the reply address from "robin1.listas@tiscali.es" to "suse-linux-e@suse.com" I have the list address in my address book, which makes it a simple matter to replace the reply to: address.

Not that I know, except what keys you have to type on your mail client program...

Me too ('SLE'). What I have done is create a little procmail+formail rule that inserts a new "reply-to" header (the original is saved as "Old-reply-to", I think). That way, the "reply-to" commands in Pine and mozilla works on this list. Possibly, there is a way to use a filter in mozilla for the same purpose, I don't know. :0f * ^X-Mailinglist: suse-linux-e | /usr/bin/formail -bfi "Reply-To:suse-linux-e@suse.com" :0 a: $HOME/Mail/lists/suse-linux-e -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
