[opensuse] What happened to synce, rapi and kcemirror
Hi, with OpenSuse 10.1 i had nice access to my PDA (running Windows CE 4.1). I could copy files and get the PDA desktop to my X11 desktop (similar to vnc). I've used the tools synce, rapi and kcemirror to do this. Now after upgrading to OpenSuse 10.2 all those tools have disappeared, i can't access the PDA anymore. What happened to those tools? Are there some better tools bundled to 10.2? thanks Marcel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm having the same problem. It looks like those tools were abandoned for OpenSync. Though OpenSync has plugin for synce protocol, that, if I understood correctly, still requires synce. I've found out synce and synce-kde rpms for 10.2 in ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/sl10.2-i386/suse/RPMS.release Synce works OK (that is, I can manually connect to my PDA and browse it with konqueror as rapip:/). But for some reason synce-kde does not really work (raki crashes on me). I'm now trying to re-compile from sources. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

As a first try, i have compiled the complete subversion synce sources from today for my other PDA (running Windows Mobile CE 5.1) using the description from: http://www.synce.org/index.php/Building_SynCE_with_Windows_Mobile_2005_suppo... Aborted ======================== Has anybody a clue what the setup of dbus on OpenSUSE is? What can i do? Further i tried to compile kcemirror locally, but this failed with ======================== /usr/lib/gcc/i586-suse-linux/4.1.2/../../../../i586-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lkdeprint ======================== and kdeprint is not on the OpenSUSE DVD... oi oi oi ... an endless story. I'm using older PDA with Windows Mobile 2003 (and had SuSE 10.0 before that). Not sure if it helps, but I just read this on synce wiki: Suse 10.1 is still quite KDE orientated, therefore the SynCE packages bundled with it doesn't work with Gnome (DCOP connection errors), best to install the distros version of multisync and needed plugin (except for SynCE), then download and install SynCE from here. Make sure and copy the plugin files from /usr/lib/multisync to /usr/local/lib/multisync [1]. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I can say that after I found out how to configure all components (orange, unshield, dynamite and synce-kde) to go to the right directories, rapi works OK to me (well, there is no kcemirror for some reason, but I did not use it anyway). -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I guess so.

Did you configure synce serial connection and started it? I have my iPaq on ttyUSB0, so I used synce-serial-config to set it up and then I'm calling synce-serial-start to actually connect to PDA.

This is part of synce package. I'm sorry, actually I used synce rpm from that ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/sl10.2-i386/suse/RPMS.release I tried synce-kde from this site, but raki crashed. So I compiled the package from source taken from sourceforge.net, as you wrote. I also used orange, unshield and dynamite from sourceforge. Maybe it was possible to do it other way, but I've only managed to compile synce-kde after I configured and installed all these 3 packets with option --prefix=/usr and then configured synce-kde with options --with-libdynamite=/usr --with-libunshield=/usr... and so on (not sure the syntax is exactly like that). In this case synce-kde components were placed into correct directories so KDE could find them. Hi Mark, thanks to all the help! Now i can craddle my IPAQ hw6910, the usb connection establishes fine and i can use the tools pls, pstatus etc.! I don't know how i got there, after my restart today it suddenly worked (probably because of my 'rmmod ipaq'??). But my konqueror usage fails with: An error occurred while loading rapip:/: Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_rapip'. and my kcemirror does not compile (because of missing kprint). I have no clue if OpenSync delivers such features. What i need are those beautiful screenshots at http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/kde/ I think you are not needing those features, so i will investigate further on the synce mailing lists. If you are interested about the outcome i can send feedback to this thread as well. thanks Marcel Mark Goldstein wrote:

No, I have not seen this one. That means you can successfully access the PDA filesystem with your konqueror using rapip:// notation?

I did it by adding -L/opt/kde3/kcemirror to the command from make file. Also no luck. What happens when you start kcemirror? Hi again, i have now bought a USB->bluetooth dongle (15 Euros from Digitus, USB 2.0, Class 2) and plugged it into my USB 1.1 plug of my notebook. Now i can see my IPAQ etc. with # hcitool scan Scanning ... 00:11:A5:xx:xx:xx Slim BT GPS 00:12:D1:xx:xx:xx WM_Administrat2 and can browse the file system of the devices with # kioobex_start -> Lists all bluetooth devices in a GUI similar to konqueror #konqueror url=bluetooth:/ -> Lists all bluetooth devices # konqueror: obex://[00:12:d1:xx:xx:xx]:3/ or sdp://wm_administrat2/ Lists the file system of the IPAQ, copy etc. works fine as well. This was a simple try compared to the USB / raki problems! Only the kcemirror functionality is now missing. For the time being i'll use the vncserver (pocketVNC.exe), not as fast and elegant as kcemirror but i can control the desktop from my Linux X11.
What happens when you start kcemirror? In my case (I tried it from command line), it looks like that: marcel@noty:~> kcemirror 192.168.1.29 Synce: true ForceInstall: false kcemirror: Could not contact PDA 192.168.1.29
I have started screensnap.exe on the IPAQ but this didn't help, see http://synce.sourceforge.net/synce/kde/old/kcemirror.php -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Marcel, I eventually managed to run kcemirror. Probably, the most important part was to use the switch --forceinstall. But before I understood it, I did something else. I removed synce-kde with all libraries and returned to synce-kde-pack from sourceforge. I could not install it because of seemingly failed dependencies. I checked the rpm again and found out that most libraries the rpm complains about are there in RPM itself. So I installed it with --nodeps. The only dependency that was really missing was libexpat.so.0. I found out that 10.2 has libexpat.so.1.5.0 and just created link libexpat.so.0 to newer one. After that rapi worked OK. I tried kcemirror again and got the same result. But then I remembered you mentioned screensnap. So I tried kcemirror --forceinstall ... and everything started working. I'm not sure it helps you, since I'm using older PDA and can use binary RPM stuff. -- Mark Goldstein -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
Thanks for the feedback! My raki icon gets colourful when i start the ActiveSync-Remote-Dialog on my older PDA but kcemirror --forceinstall 192.168.1.25 does nothing (even when i start a copy of sceensnap.exe on the PDA). I'm now tired trying further ... #*+(? regards and thanks Marcel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
