Hi, My company runs an SMB server for file and print sharing which I am supposed to be a user of. My workstation : SL 8.0 stable. Setup : SMB print server IP = 10.3.0.42 Has prints queues : 3flr_4000n, 3flr_8000n and so on. Using yast2, I am unable to connect to this printer. I start up the yast, and configure printer, and network printer, and samba printer.. and then I specify the server name [the IP address], the username and password also. Printer HP Laserjet 8000 n is also configured pretty decently. But when I print, I get nothing. Just nothing... I am using LPD as the printing daemon. Tried cups, but that did not work too. Anyone has a similar setup? Any problems? Experiences to help me? I must admit I have not yet invested 4 hours looking into this problem. rohit -- +9122 5692 2101 D2,floor-3,Chandivali : SDE : TLSI : 9821394599@bplmobile.com The information below, for non-mahindrabt recepients, is compulsorily added. ********************************************************* Disclaimer This message (including any attachments) contains confidential information intended for a specific individual and purpose, and is protected by law. Hello I noticed the same problem - that why I print from workstation directly to CUPS printer at the server, not SMB printer. Strange but true, Win-clients print wine to SMB printers at the server, though. I have setup Suse 7.3 as server, sunning Samba 2.2.3a and CUPS 1.1.10-94, WorkStation is currently Suse 8.1, but worked fine with 8.0, too. Hope this helps. -- --Jyry C:-( C:-/ C========8-O C8-/ C:-(

You are way ahead of my little home network, but 4000n and 8000n
indicate to be that they are HP's with JetDirect cards. I have 2 HP
printers on my network, but they have different IP addresses; however,
there is one thing they have in common, at least under CUPS. That is
the Port number, 9100, which the CUPS docs will tell you are the
addresses for JetDirect. If you don't get past the correct JetDirect
address, you will not print.
If they are on a hub, the ports will be 9100, 9101, 9102, etc. I am not
sure how you will handle your situation. Is the SMB server a network
machine with 2 lpt parallel ports to the printers, or the printers
connected to CAT5 cables to some sort of router?
I only understand network printing. If that is your case, then the 2
printers are probably 10.3.0.42:9100 and 10.3.0.42:9101.
I hope this gets you started, maybe not.
