yes, but I do this on suse for years, now, without problem. jdd -- pour m'écrire, aller sur: http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.net http://arvamip.free.fr

We changed the default ... Mostly to align all the different sus (su , sudo, kdesu, gnomesu) we have. There is a config file where you can adjust the default path. Ciao, Marcus
I define the problem. Usually, on suse distro I used to go admin by "su", never a problem (for example on my 9.0 server). on beta2, it's necessary to use "su -" not necessary a bug, it's a common practice, but it's a change. For example, with "su", I could not run yast (this was why I found the problem, I could not beleive yast was not here :-) how could web know if it's a change or a bug?? jdd -- pour m'écrire, aller sur: http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.net http://arvamip.free.fr

Thanks - it's also discussed in the Release-Notes and the manual ;) BTW, the manual (both of them actually) are accessible as part of "susehelp". Please, give it a try! is the suse 10.0 manual part of the beta process (I missed this point)? it may have a much harder release roadmap jdd -- pour m'écrire, aller sur: http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.net http://arvamip.free.fr

Yes indeed, the roadmap of the manuals tells that they are now at translation. The only thing we could do, is setup a wiki page with errors or improvements. Changes to the manuals are not possible anymore. even nicer than a wiki page IMHO: Bugs filed against the "Documentation" component in Bugzilla. Bugzilla entries are easier to track than a wiki page that's constantly evolving. just my $0.02, Jana -- Jana Jaeger jjaeger@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Documentation Maxfeldstr. 5 +49 (0) 911 74053-0 D-90409 Nuernberg http://www.suse.de

Yes. However, in my experience, suse is very good regarding the manuals. I cried, some years ago, when suse stopped translating it's manual to french and issued a Yeppee when Novell did it again. The manual itself gives value to the box (online manuals are never as good as paper ones, even if they are the same :-) jdd -- pour m'écrire, aller sur: http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.net http://arvamip.free.fr

I cried when I saw the English 'translations' a few years ago and issued a Yeppee because I speak German and could understand it. :-) Much better now. Must say I have not really looked at the manuals anymore. Is there a reason that the HTML version is not online, but the pdf's are? HTML online makes much, much more sence. Could they be put up on openSUSE? houghi -- The fact that it works is immaterial. -- L. Ogborn

The manuals are available in "/usr/share/doc/manual". I also have mirrored the spanish versions: http://www.polinux.upv.es/~vfernandez/suse/manuales/suselinux-adminguide-9.2... http://www.polinux.upv.es/~vfernandez/suse/manuales/suselinux-userguide-9.2-... Anyone is free to do the same with the other languages, since the license explicitly allows to freely redistribute it as long as you don't remove the copyright note. If I don't remember bad, the english version is available at Novell's website. Not easy to find but it's there. Google will likely be helpful. -- Víctor Fernández Martínez Gabinete de prensa de PoLinux [www.polinux.upv.es]. Usuario de Linux registrado #312284 en http://counter.li.org.

The 9.3 is only available as pdf not as HTML and it would be nice to have the HTML version if you have problems installing YAST. Why not have them at Novell? It can't create that much extra traffic. houghi -- Aquadextrous, adj.: Possessing the ability to turn the bathtub faucet on and off with your toes. -- Rich Hall, "Sniglets"

Are you sure? I have Suse 9.3 and the HTML files are just there in /usr/share/doc/manual. # rpm -qa | grep suselinux suselinux-userguide_es-9.3-4 suselinux-adminguide_es-9.3-4.3 # ls -l /usr/share/doc/manual/suselinux-userguide_es/html/*.html | wc -l 132 # -- Víctor Fernández Martínez Gabinete de prensa de PoLinux [www.polinux.upv.es]. Sorry, I seem not to have been clear. I ment to say that only online at Novell they have the pdf version and it would be nice to have the HTML online at Novell or openSUSE as well. houghi -- Chicago, n.: Where the dead still vote ... early and often!
