My pet peeve java is keeping me busy again. It seems with every release SuSE fails to address the issues of creating an out of the box setup. I lived with konq for 4 months without java but time has come to change this. I noticed in 7.3 the java is actually meant to be in the PATH. PATH=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/lib/java/bin:/usr/games/bin:/usr/games:/opt/gnome/bin:/opt/kde2/bin:/opt/kde/bin:.:/opt/gnome/bin But I can't get Konq to get anything java related to function. Mozilla of course works fine with java and javascript. So I do a $ ls -l /usr/lib/java/bin lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Nov 29 08:46 java -> .java_wrapper Of course the file java_wrapper is not there. Typical. No worries I just try one of the 3 other java implementations suse delivers. ibm java2 or jdk1.1.8 or jdk1.3. I add jdk1.1.8 to the path export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/jdk1.1.8/bin/ configure konq to this location but still it won't do java or javascript. and yes I restarted konq to make sure its got the right settings applied. sigh mk _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
How about going into Konq's config in kcontrol and point it to ... example: -- /usr/lib/IBMJava2-13/bin/java -- Go to Web Browsing ---> Konqueror Browser and click on the java tab..then point it to the directory with java in it. It works fine if you do this. I've used Konq to do apt hunting with that 360 view stuff..which is a java applet and I've looked at tons of cars online before I bought and ALL of the tours of the insides of the cars are displayed in java applets. It works fine. Also, enable java globally. :) * Purple Shirt (purpleshirt@hotmail.com) [020224 01:05]: ->My pet peeve java is keeping me busy again. Java and Javascript are two seperate things. Javascript does not use an external program but is rather part of the browser, and is not even Java related despite the name. You need to activate both Java and Javascript seperately via settings menu / configure Konqueror / Konqueror Browser. I had success with Java when I told it my complete path: "/usr/lib/jdk1.3.1/bin/java" -- Make it myself? But I'm a physical organic chemist!

Of course not unless you use ls -al... -- ======================================================= Glenn Holmer (gholmer@ameritech.net) ------------------------------------------------------- Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. Hi 'Purple Shirt', To make it a bit clearer:-), ls -al will show you _all_ files, including the ones with a leading dot, such as .java_wrapper, whereas 'normal listings' don't show you these 'dotfiles' ... Of course one always forgets the simple things. Typical :-) Cheers ...
