Has anyone been successful installing any SuSE version to the hp ze4115 laptop? I have tried to use the cds, dvd, boot iso cd, and the 9.1 ftp boot install. Not one will go past the first welcome splash screen. The cd seems to unmount and the keyboard is dead. Only and power off will do anything. Knoppix will boot and play, Debian will boot and play, but no SuSE! I would really like to instal SuSE 9.1 cause I'm most familiar with it. Is there any finger magic that I can try to get it to boot to do an install? Since it never gets to the screen where I can disable anything I'm at a loss. TIA Richard

Try booting off CD2. I've had the same problem on Dell 350, it was hanging while loading the kernel off CD1. Boot from CD2 did the trick. Regards, -Kastus

I tried that but still no luck. Looks like nothing from suse will work. As luck would have it, a week or so ago I cleaned up in here and trashed my 6.5 7.0, 7.1, 8.0 and 8.1 sets so I'm screwed! Guess I'll have to wait until someone figures out what is wrong. ra
I have a ze4125 and have the same problem. I've tried every bootable disk and only get the welcome screen. This was also the case with 9.0. I was able to install that however over after coping the files to my server and booting with 8.2 net-install cd (the last suse that hase worked for me) and installing over nfs. I explained that in detail in a post about a year ago. This procedure doesn't work with 9.1 however. I always get an error about not finding keyboard and it hangs. I also tried to do the update thingy in yast but after you do that your system is recognized as 9.0 and not 9.1 (you get no updates for 9.1). After a little googling i found a "fix" for that from suse. They explain that this happens when you upgrade from a running and to avoid this you should but your system from the upgrades boot cd. Well, that helps alot. I tried playing around with the version data that is buried somewhere but to no avail. In short, I had no luck. Fedora Core 2 works nicely but I as soon as I get a suse version that boots I'll be doing a reformat. These laptops are really common and it worked before!! PS. Linare, Xandros and some versions of Knoppix also don't boot. On Sat, 2004-08-14 at 18:10, Richard wrote:

I've been looking at HP laptops and need to get something shortly. SuSE 9.0 or 9.1 does work on a zd7000, right? -- Jim Sabatke Hire Me!! - See my resume at http://my.execpc.com/~jsabatke Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup. I am looking to buy an HP zd7260us. Just yesterday I tried the original SuSE 9.1 live-eval cd (not the May 2004 updated one) in a zd7240us (closest they had in stock) at Circuit City. It booted and worked fine (generally), with a couple of things to note. 1) The Broadcom wireless Ethernet card was detected, but it didn't seem to be working. 2) The soundcard was detected, but again it didn't seem to be working. This I think could be fixed with some tweaking after a real install. 3) X may require some configuration tweaking to set the resolution correctly. The live-eval does not support the wide-screen, so the display is stretched left to right. 4) The scroll "wheel" on the glidepoint did not work as such, but rather as just extra room on the glidepoint. 5) The Nvidia chips are supported. 6) HP's proprietary "media center" port most likely will not do anything in linux (though I have no evidence of this, just suspicion). 7) Likewise, I am unsure about the flash card reader. I _really_ like the widescreen, and the 10-key pad. I am considering buying it even with the Broadcom wireless, in the slimmest of hopes some brilliant kernel hacker will be able to get it working, even without Broadcom's help. Also note that the built-in 10/100 Ethernet is Realtek, and should work just fine. For wireless, I am going to try the PCMCIA D-Link cards, as their wireless PCI cards work fine in 9.1 (though not in 9.0) Later today I plan on trying the updated 9.1 live-eval in an actual zd7260us (and then probably buying it). FWIW: I have a ze5570us & the Broadcom works w/ndiswrapper & the Broadcom drivers/inf file from Windows. As for the rest, I cannot comment. I only know that w/some work I got SuSE 9 Pro to work on this box --including the internal modem-- but 9.1 would not work properly & neither would the internal modem ...or even the external one, for that matter. -- ..."Yogi" CH Namasté Yoga Studio

The broadcom is a no brainer with ndiswrapper. I have a little howto on it if you want it. My brother has a Dell with a Dlink G650 that works from the install of 9.1. no problem. ra

FWIW, I have a zd7000. 9.1 installed more or less "out of the box" apart from wireless, which I have going with the linuxant driver. Some people have also had success with ndiswrapper. The display is a breeze to set up in 9.1 with the nvidia drivers - you just need to add 1440x900 to the available resolutions. Lots of useful information on the zd7000 forums. David

Guess I gotta go find the 8.2 net iso cause I just threw out my 8.2 cds, dammit! I'll look for your howto tonite. Thanks, Richard
GREAT NEWS FOR 4115 OWNERS!! By upgrading your bios to KAM1.25, SuSE 9.1 will now boot and install. BUT the trackpad tapping doesn't work initially, just like for Compaq. After the install fire up sax2 and select the synaptics driver and you should be in business. Richard On Saturday 14 August 2004 03:48 pm, Chris Wilson wrote:
