Hi Mike, please refer to this : To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org
I thought they were just succinctly pointing out that the command is there at the end of every email. Perhaps change the message to a link to a wiki page exlaining it all? ie: To unsubscribe or other commands read this: http://<unsubscribe wiki page> Or maybe: To unsubscribe, send blank email to "opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org" Cheers, David -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

AFAIK there is no must for a *blank* email. Just the right address counts. Hitting on the signature of every single post in a particular mailing list would do the job. Indeed, but it just seemed to me that the people who are having trouble are sending subject:unsubscribe (or "unsubscribe" in the email body) to:opensuse@opensuse.org and that a slightly different wording might prevent these cases.

I don't understand what you mean there.

I think by "hitting on" he means "clicking on". Specifically, since a full, valid unsubscribe address is added as a "signature" to each message delivered through the list reflector for the various SuSE lists and since most email clients make apparent links (typically both http: and mail) in the message bodies active and clickable links, you can initiate sending of the requisite unsubscribe message by clicking on the appropriate address in the signature / footer of the message.
...

Ah, yes, i see now. Opera's email client doesn't do that with the email addresses at the end of every post. Perhaps the people having trouble unsubscribing are using clients which similarly don't do this with these addresses? how hard can it be to actually read through your emails you get and (trying) to understand whats actully been written there. every mail features that stuff. doh. i will never understand these unsubscribe discussions. whats mean time between unsubscribe discussions on this list anyways :) guess that would be a good quality indicator. do actually some email clients or servers filter the signature stuff from emails? that would be the only explanation to me that people are unable to read, understand and follow some simple two lines inside their mailinglist emails. it cant be that hard. unless they never see those lines. anyways, everybody who subscribes to any list, should get some how-to emails at the very beginning of their subscription process about how the list works. everythig is also stated there. ---------------------------------- To unsubscribe, sen e-mail to: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, send e-mail to: opensuse+help@opensuse.org ---------------------------------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes you're right Randall. I meant to 'hit' or if you prefer to click on the link inside any signature as in: "To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org" Even if not all email client transform the unsubscribe address into a link, then still there is no reason for hesitating to use the copy/paste function of a common keyboard... - -- All the best, Peter J. Maybe not. If I were trying to unsubscribe and did it the wrong way, hitting the list instead, I would certainly read again carefully, and this time I would do it the proper way. So, unless the person trying to unsubscribe does it again and again, I would not infer that they are having real trouble. So, best thing is to ignore them.
