Hello how I open port upd 514? Should I do it with yast2 or direct with in /etc/inetd.conf. Has anybody an example? Is this port per default open or closed (suse 8.0). thanks Oliver

Don't know about default. If you have enabled syslog with Yast2, looks like it should be open.... nmap -sU -p 514 your.fqdn.here my result: Port State Service 514/udp open syslog -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org icq#173753138

Yo open a port, you need a service running (listening) on this port. The ports are not open or closed like a door, you need a service listening in this port to be open
