Re: [SLE] 8.1 upgrade a wash. pfft
Well, I went through the CD's one at a time and installed every yast2 pkg I could find so I could at least install the rest of the packages. Ya know what..even though yast2-ncurses is installed and is in the rpm db. It pukes saying I have to install yast2-ncurses. I'm not happy about this. * dep (dep@linuxandmain.com) [021004 20:14]: ->begin Ben Rosenberg's quote: ->| Wow! Neither was I !! I finally did a clean install on one of my two boxen. Not sure though, what I'm gonna do with the other one (it sits in my other appartment where I'm staying during work weeks - i.e. rarely, we have a lot of holiday in Germoney *ggg*). At least it is kind of rehabilitation to me that even Great fellow Ben Rosenberg got difficulties with this update - I almost thought only I was too stupid! *gg* Cheers ... You such a suckup. ;) Well, with the acception of the weird install having to have 8.1 upgrade itself and the Mozilla issue ( compilation with GCC 3.2 breaks 80% of the plugins including JAVA) everything is pretty ship shape. I've spent most of today hunting through 8.1 and it's pretty good. :) Since every machine is different and every person's configs are different I can't say that my experiences will be someone else's..but 8.1 does seem to be an order of magnitude better then 8.0 :) I'm still not sure the new pkg stuff in YaST2 will beat out apt..but it's pretty cool for newbies who like to click ..click thought things. I would give 8.1 a B+. :) Cheers! -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org Tell me what you believe.. I tell you what you should see.

Thanks Ben for sharing your experience. I still have to pick up my 8.1 update at Oakland office Monday morning. I anticipate a fun ride. Cheers, -Kastus
