I'd like to upgrade Mozilla from the version on the 7.3 CDs but am having a hard time figuring out how to do it. There are a swirl of dependency problems. Just trying to rpm the latest Mozilla fails because of the need for jre1.3. Trying to rpm the java2 package leads to another set of dependency problems: error: failed dependencies: libodbc.so is needed by java2-1.3.1-85 libodbcinst.so is needed by java2-1.3.1-85 libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 is needed by java2-1.3.1-85 So how am I supposed to upgrade Mozilla from 0.9.4 to a newer version?
It looks like you have a pre-7.3 SuSE release that you're trying to upgrade. You can't expect packages from a later release to work as, as you have observed, dependencies change If you go to ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla you can find RPMs for the SuSE version you have and the Mozilla version you want.

If I could butt in here, I tried downloading the rpm as described above, but it said it could not install it because I didn't have the Java Runtime Environment needed. I'm running 7.3 Personal. Should I download JVE from somewhere and install it first? Thanks. -- Bryce Hardy (Santa Rosa, CA) brycehdy@sonic.net --->>>"Arbeit Macht Nicht So Frei!"<<<---

One way is to download the nightly snapshot from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-i686-pc-linux.gnu.tar.gz then extract it into /opt then run /sbin/config.d/SuSEconfig.mozilla

If you don't need Java for Mozilla you can just run rpm -Uvh --nodeps on your Mozilla rpm and then run SuSEConfig for SuSE to set up Mozilla settings. If you do need Java, however, you'll need to go through updating Java....
