RE: [SLE] Security announcement
They are saying not all kernel are effected, but that everyone should upgrade anyway. I'd e-mail mantel and ask. I missed this issue on bugtraq. Jonathan Paul Cowherd Linux and Java Administrator Genscape, Inc. Email: jonathan.cowherd@genscape.com Office: (502) 583-3730 Mobile: (502) 314-0444

All - Does anyone know if the 2.4.21-4 Mantel kernel has the vulnerabilities outlined in todays' security announcement ( SuSE-SA:2003:034)?

Mantel is out of town until the 25th, as I have already tried contacting him on another matter involving his 2.4.21 kernel. What type of problem is mentioned in the security announcement? Some of us here don't subscribe to that mail list. Pat -- --- KMail v1.5.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

Just upgraded my Kernel using YOU and now I've got to go through the rigmarol of sorting out my nVidia drivers yet again... arrrgghhh. Now where did I put that howto and the nvidia instructions??? I hope I don't have to fetch a fresh set of drivers and can just re-install what I've just pulled down last month...

Um.. Why not? suse-security-announce a very low traffic list (not like RedHat which seems to have an update every other day even for the 7.x series), and it's always a good idea to get the security announcements so you can determine if it affects you and update if necessary.. -- trey

Good point Trey and I guess it would not be a bad idea. I am usually very good at doing regular online updates or checking to see if new files have been made available, that I just never subsribed. I couldn't find this particular announcement on the announce list though from SuSE's site, so thought it best to ask. The stuff on www.suse.com/de is notoriously out of date. http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-security-announce/current is always, uhm, current. -- -ckm

Well, I attempted to forward the announcement that I got off the suse-announce list but as things would have it the SLE doesn't accept email over 20k and the announcement was over 20k. Go figure. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Smartass. ;) Sorry I didn't make up to the convention last week. I've been to damn busy to even think lately..but you prolly gleaned that from some of the incomprehensible email I've sent to the lists lately. *laugh* -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.
