Damn, Loki has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Scott Draeker calls it a "reorganization" and doesn't have plans to stop porting for a "long time". I, for one, am not so optimistic. Although I haven't bought any Loki games (32MB of RAM is not enough), I do plan to in the near future as I build a new computer. I noticed SuSE is selling at least two Loki games through their own site: Rune and Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns. I checked a few days ago but I couldn't _buy_ a copy even though the initial description page was built. With Loki's bankruptcy, what will become of this? It would be most splendid if SuSE cooperated with Loki to make sure it installed flawlessly on at least SuSE 7.2. In more detail, what exactly _were_ SuSE plans with Loki? I also found out the Loki ports from Tux Games were selling like hot cakes and they couldn't keep up with demand. Damn.. it's a shame. Where did they go wrong? Is there no demand for proprietary games for Linux yet? Has Linux in general been pushed back a year or two because of this bankruptcy? Rune installs so painlessly on 7.1 or it did so for me..it was nothing but "sux to root, then mount cdrom..and run the GUI installer". It's SO much fun. I bought the 1st one and Halls of Valhalla about 2 weeks apart. I played the damn thing for 4.5 hours lastnight..great fun. I would be very sad to see loki die. I have bought 80% of their games...they do a fantastic job of porting them. Too bad your a little lite on the RAM..these games are so fun...but then again I haven't had any issues with the nVidia drivers..Rune is nicely done as is Tribes2. You can buy direct from Loki's site. I have just bought Kohan this week, and as well as being a game that looks beautiful and seems to play very well, it runs flawlessly on 7.2, with a Voodoo 3 card (Tribes 2 won't!). The best thing anyone on this list can do if they want to see native games on Linux is to buy a game from them, even if it won't be used immediately. By the way, are there any other Kohan players on this list? If so, get in touch. Kevin

Yep, I bought 8 games from Loki, but so far I've only played 4 seriously. I don't even have enough space to install all of them on my paltry 10 Gig hard drive. I even bought the Programming Linux Games book, yet I have no interest in game programming. It will probably be useful for SDL stuff as I'm planning an SDL version of a program I wrote.

Ahhh, Kohan. In the short amount of time I've been able to play it, I've become quite addicted. I'm even someone who got bored with RTS games in the Dune 2 era. Everything from Warcraft until Kohan bored me. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7mMuT+FOexA3koIgRAvV2AJ47pDMAw6KmIo+94L9LhpP1uR57aACfdW1s wM1R1A+yI9h0Qd28jFlixxs= =C7sG -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Greetings, list! I know it is impossible to play Tribes 2 online without a proper key, but if I bought a Linux version and registered with it, then I presume I could have played windows version with the same registered username online, right? Why I am asking this is because Linux version seems a LOT cheaper than the version for Windows... TIA/Yours sincerely, Ziga Dolhar
