Hi, I have an Adaptec 2940U SCSI controller and a SCSI Scanner which is working perfect. I have 2 IDE discs of 120 GB size each, which also work fine. I have NOT been using a SCSI disc on my controller (with driver aic7xxx) yet, but now I wanted to have a look onto my older SCSI discs and inserted them into their removable rack. Under SuSE 9.2 (up to date) I do not get the device entries /dev/sda or /dev/sda1 - they are simply not existent. At startup it says there is a disc and it shows sda and sda1. So I presumed that it should work, but it doesn't. When I did a "mknod /dev/sda b 8 0" I couldn't access the disc either. Under Windows ME it simply works - meaning I can access the disc and data on it. So, what am I missing here? Does anybody have any clue what is going wrong with my SuSE 9.2 box? Thanks in advance Martin

Hopefully you have /dev/sda1, check you have the scsi modules loaded. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Hamradio License G3VBV, Keen licensed Private Pilot Retired IBM Mainframes and Sun Servers Tech Support Specialist Microsoft Windows Free Zone - Linux for all Computing Tasks

Thanks Sid! I did that and actually it didn't help, but in the meantime I could access ONE of these disks (another one not). I was trying to insert the controller with YaST, didn't help ... some other stuff ... didn't help, until I tried it with scsidev and a reboot. I think that helped. But the end of it was a conclusion of mine that I might have a too low voltage problem again on that. I still need to check that. But in order to do that I have to look for a PSU first. Thanks again!
