Wireless NIC - how to set encryption in SuSE Linux?
I am trying to get encryption working with my Netgear MA401 wireless PCMCIA NIC (802.11b, uses the orinoco_cs driver). After fiddling with the /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts, I come to the conclusion that this is not at all the file, the SuSE Linux 7.3 wireless configuration uses. The card works fine without encryption, but when I set the encryption from the Windows drivers for the card (of course checking that it works under Windows), and try making it work under Linux, I am stuck, since the SuSE configuration is so well hidden. Could someone tell in which file(s) to set the encryption key? Thanks in advance. Best regards, David List

Welcome to the suse-wireless-broken-e list! I tried many ways to make the new SuSE 8.0 scripts work with encryption keys, but never got it. After a lot of tinkering, I *think* the SuSE scripts can be made to work IF you are using encryption key [1] which I am not. My solution was to modify the ifup-wireless script and hard code the iwconfig command in the right spot. See the unofficial SuSEfaq for details of where I made the change: http://susefaq.sourceforge.net Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Right behind you, I see the millions Got spam? I'm wondering if I should go back to 7.3 on this laptop ?
I think it might work then :-)

I'll have a look at it. Thank you for your answer. Best regards, David List
