Hi, possibly a stupid question, but.... Is it possible to define 2 'default' gateways in the '/etc/route.conf' file? So if the first one doesn't function it will automatically try the second one? Hi,
* Berge, Harry ten;
Hi, possibly a stupid question, but....
The stupid questin IMO is the one that has never been asked
Is it possible to define 2 'default' gateways in the '/etc/route.conf' file?
My definition default can be only one descriptipn
So if the first one doesn't function it will automatically try the second one?
You may want to have a look at http://lartc.org as you need to use iproute tools and define the next hop -- Togan Muftuoglu Unofficial SuSE FAQ Maintainer http://dinamizm.ath.cx
Default route is last resort route, ie, ip packets
could not find any matching routes in the routing
table then choose the default route. Usually, default
route is only used for terminal server, or hosts.
Routing devices don't use default route.
it is the fundamental truth for both unix based or pro
routing devices

Did I mention were using 'ip' (iputils2.rpm) solely for setting up network and route in 8.0? -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort?" -- A. P. J.

No but the document you mentioned from the support database says ip is on show. And if you search the archives a little back roughly 2-3 months you would find an email from me asking "if any one has used ip instead of the ifconfig and route commands to configure networking scripts" you could have given me hint and say don't waste your time make sure your CC details are in our database so we will ship 8.0 as soon as it's ready. :-) ps (I would have bought it anyhow if ip was the way to configure network and routing) -- Togan Muftuoglu
