[Fwd: [SLE] DVD sound problem with mplayer - codec 0x2000 missing]
I think, I found the answer myself: SuSE disabled the AC3 decodingd due to potential legal issues. I hope, I can build it myself. -----Forwarded Message-----

I try to play a DVD with mplanyer under SuSE 8.2. It plays video fine, but no sound. It displays an error message "Cannot find codec for audio format 0x2000"
I found in the codec support table that this codec is supported and it is in the file AC3-liba52. So, there should be no problem at all.
Any idea?

http://packman.links2linux.de Has all packages you need to get it running, built by Henne Vogelsang of SuSE fame. It has a lot of other nice packages too

Yes, I can vouch for this. The packman stuff is tailored for SuSE and works quite nicely, The same hold true for Xine (my personal preference). Take a look. Oh, and IIRC if you get the all German site I believe you can get the english language site - the option is in the top right corner if I'm not mistaken. Thank you for the good tip, but I still feel a bit lost... I installed the a52dec package, but nothing happens, the codec is still missing. I feel a bit dumb here. I read the README and the INSTALL of the packages but I could not figure out what to do exactly. Shall I install the a52dec package, then install Mplayer? Or should I recompile Mplayer from source, when the a52dec is installed? There must be something trivial what I miss here. Thanks, L.S. On Sun, 2003-07-06 at 19:47, Curtis Rey wrote:

No, get mplayer and all packages listed as dependencies from the packman site. Then you'll have a working player
