[opensuse] USB wifi
Does anyone know of a USB wifi that is supported natively in 11.0? Thanks! Fred -- Linux is an old Latin word meaning, "I don't have to support your Windows anymore." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm using an Airlink 101 Model AWLL3055 that uses the zd1211 chip. The firmware and driver from 11.0 works fine. The 10 db antenna ain't to shabby either. Yast found it and set it up no problem. I'm using a Gigafast usb dongle that also uses the Zydas zd1211 chip. It works fine with SUSE 11.0 including WPA2-personal encryption. It also worked with Ubuntu Gutsy, Hardy, and Mandriva 2008.1 prior to installing openSUSE 11.0. Which model is that, Lee. I'm keeping a record of what we know does work. Thanks, Fred -- Linux is an old Latin word meaning, "I don't have to support your Windows anymore." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Fred, It's called the WLAN 11G USB Adapter Here are some useful links. http://www.gigafast.com/products/product_detail/WF748-CUI.htm http://www.gigafast.com/products/product_drivers/WF748-CUI_drivers.htm In reference to the 2nd link above, my S/N starts with Z5, so it is evidently Zydas 1211 version as opposed to the 1211b. The CD that came with it has a linux driver included, but I have never tried to use it. One bit of caution - I could not get this unit to work properly when I first tried it with Linux. That changed when I later tried it on a machine with USB 2.0. (The first one didn't have any 2.0 ports) In Windows if it is used with a USB 1.x port, it automatically operates in 802.1b mode only. If it is plugged into a USB 2.0 port in Windows, it looks for 802.1g and operates in that mode if the router supports it. Most flavors of Linux seem happy with the USB 2.0 mode only. I have had mine for at least 2 years, but they may still be available. http://yhst-65141441995333.stores.yahoo.net/gigafast-80211bg-wireless-lan-us... They appear to be for sale at the link above, but it is unclear which version it is.
