[SLE] TrueType fonts
I'd like to add support for TrueType fonts on my SuSE Linux 6.3 installation, but I'm not sure which fontserver to use. I've taken quick looks at xfsft, xfstt and a japanese server I don't remember the name of right now. Can anyone recommend a fontserver which is easy to use/install, works well etc.? I'd wish that SuSE Linux came with a TrueType fontserver on one of its 6 CDs. (I've looked at the CDs but could not find any TT fontserver there) -- Eivind Olsen - eivindo@bgnett.no -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

I vaguely remember needing 'freetype' in section gra to run imglib or something. i think freetype was a tt server. rpm -qi freetype. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

freetype is more the library stuff you need. there are two fontserver I know of: xfsft and xfstt. xfstt does only TTF's and xfsft does the other fonts as well. Sadly, both (as far as I know) are not (yet) part of the distribution. Fontserver xfsft: (binary, runs on SuSE 6.2 and probably above) ftp://ftp.metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/X11/fonts/xfsft-1.1.6.linux-i386-libc6.tar.gz that's the place to look for xfsft. FreeType is not a fontserver but a library which provides TrueType font support to any application. xfsft requires it. I would recommend xfsft as it was very easy to get working. I think xfs is there and apparantly the choice of the font experts. (from what I have read.) Eivind Olsen wrote:

My impression from reading that new, very useful Font Howto by Donovan Rebbichi is that if you are using xfs you don't need to use xfstt at all. Is that correct? I am using xfsft right now. Started a description on installing as well. If interested, contact me direct.
