[opensuse] Hight load to CPU
Hello all,
strange hight load on CPU and slow work of system some time.
CPU is CoreDuo E6550, 2 Gb memory. Nvidia GT8500 with Nvidia drivers
(x11-video-nvidiaG01 & nvidia-gfxG01-kmp-default)
Suse 10.3 64 bit. Installed one week ago only.
What is wrong in my system?
May be i must to disable "powerd"? i use it on desktop computer and not
want to save any electricity.

Not nearly enough info to diagnose your problem from here. The only thing taking any big CPU time is Xorg, which you kind of expect. Watch top for a while and see who is getting bumped up to the top of the list. Also press the digit 1 while top is running to break out statistics for each processor separately. Who are these 9 users? I usually have only 1 or two at once on a personal machine. Shut down yast. It can be resource intensive while it is updating software. -- ----------JSA--------- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Every tab in a Konsole acts like a separate login. At the moment, top and w both show 13 users on my system: 11:17:27 up 4 days, 23:37, 13 users, load average: 1.13, 0.60, 0.37 USER TTY LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT rschulz :0 Thu11 ?xdm? 8:04m 0.13s /bin/sh /opt/kde3/bin/startkde rschulz pts/0 Thu11 4:00m 0.78s 0.78s /bin/bash rschulz pts/1 Thu11 4:00m 0.69s 0.69s /bin/bash rschulz pts/2 Thu11 3:47m 4.28s 3.38s vi CSRv.clif CSR003+0v.clif CSR003+1v.clif CSRv-test CSRv-out CSRv-dbg rschulz pts/3 Thu11 3:59m 0.75s 0.75s /bin/bash rschulz pts/4 Thu11 1:31 0.76s 0.01s su - rschulz pts/5 Thu11 0.00s 1.95s 0.01s w rschulz pts/6 Thu11 18:03m 1.72s 1.72s /bin/bash rschulz pts/8 Thu11 42:54m 0.35s 0.01s su - rschulz pts/9 Thu11 1:20m 0.26s 0.01s su - rschulz pts/10 Thu11 4days 0.00s 1:29 kded [kdeinit] --new-startup rschulz pts/11 Thu12 28:40 1.42s 1.42s ssh rschulz@smiley -2 rschulz pts/14 Sun08 2days 0.53s 0.53s ssh root@smiley -2

Xorg always in top (approximate 50-60%), also flock, thunderbird, skype or amarok can get 1-5%, but not more.
Also press the digit 1 while top is running to break out statistics for each processor separately.
Who are these 9 users? I usually have only 1 or two at once on a personal machine.
It is my shell console: # who vader :0 Apr 1 14:54 (console) vader pts/0 Apr 1 14:55 vader pts/3 Apr 1 14:55 vader pts/4 Apr 1 14:55 vader pts/5 Apr 1 14:55 vader pts/7 Apr 1 14:55 vader pts/10 Apr 1 22:28 I am developer and use shell very intensive.
Shut down yast. It can be resource intensive while it is updating software. Usually i have shut down yast full day. And i use smart for update my software.

Well, according to top, powerd isn't using many CPU cycles.. Maybe you should adjust its settings so that when the CPU starts to get loaded, it will go from power-saving speed to full speed sooner.
