[SLE] OT: Wvdial and resolv.conf
Hi. Does anyone know if wvdial changes your resolv.conf when it connects to an ISP? It is just that i have been noticing that my resolv.conf file changes nearly every time i connect to the net.. I know it is not SuSEconfig because i have told it not to touch any of my files.. Any ideas? If it is wvdial.. Does anyone know how to stop it?? I have not seen it change it whatsoever. A few things seem to touch my resolv.conf one way or another though. One is suseconfig. Others that I have seen are any of the ppp dialers which include dns support like X-Isp, kppp, etc. Also pcmcia will touch it with networking options. With suseconfig, I have noticed it claims that mine has been altered and it is leaving it untouched. I have used wvdial for quite some time on debian and suse systems and have not seen it touch that file. -- Michael Perry mperry@tsoft.com ------------------ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Most probably you have selected Auto DNS while doing the wvdial configuration if you disable it you should not have the resolve.conf changing AFAIK Togan Muftuoglu Matthew King wrote:

-- I have noticed the same thing. WVDial appears to take the original resolv.conf and make a back-up of it and then create its own. Then upon exit of wvdial, its own get deleted, and the original goes back to its original name. I'm not sure why all this takes place.
The thing I'm trying to figure out with wvdial, is why an attempt is made to use
CHAP and PAP, when I have not set the options for these (I using scripting).
