[opensuse] Got Xorg 7.3 and Lost Compiz
Synopsis: Compiz was running great under xorg 7.2. I upgraded to xorg 7.3 now compiz will not start no matter what. This thread picks up from "Yast Software Mgmt. Slower, and Slower and Slower" that I hijacked from myself. Ben Kevan wrote:

Ben, (New thread) I have also included additional detail at the bottom that may help. Just a thought apart from mainstream: After so many days, so much frustration with "won't fix bugs" and so many experiments up and down various roads, how about going with the pure KDE/superkaramba eye candy for the time being? You will get a fair chance of enjoying true performance instead of playing around with ressource hungry "will sometimes be stable" feature rich crap. If you feel like "I want to experience some pain" you can always use a desktop computer, preferably equipped with an Nvidia Graphics Card. kind regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

All original libs restored and tried. No different than before. Compiz will not even whimper with the original libGL.so.1.2 in place or libIndirectGL.so.1 in place. See confirmed Bug: 338947. All additional xorg 7.3 updates applied - no difference. Complete uninstall/reinstall of compiz - no difference. Bottom line (unless brilliance springs from thin air) is the xorg 7.3 change exacerbated the libIndirectGL.so.1 and libGL.so.1.2 bugs with respect to graphics function of the ati driver on the Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 series card rendering compiz useless on my laptop. That's progress for you. If anyone has any other ideas, please chime in. Else, I am pursing bug 340459 that hopefully will garner the combined help of ati with the problem. I just wish I new what changed between 7.2 and 7.3 that caused the problem. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Where is it getting /usr/$LIB/ from? Do you have an error in your /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ or /etc/ld.so.conf? Both, that is the result of --no-libgl-fallback. Without it, you just get the seg fault. The was some suggestions relating the --no-libgl-fallback problem was being worked with "Bug 234154 - Additional Software Rendering libGL". I'm still stuck though. I also question if that is really the root of the problem since compiz did run under xorg 7.2 with a command line that *did* include -no-libgl-fallback. Go figure? -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
