Hello:
How can I change the printer name in openSUSE 11.2 YaST? In openSUSE 10.3 printer configuration was powerful and still straightforward. Practically every important thing could be set/changed easily. In openSUSE 11.2 the interface has changed (I don't know why the previous interface was not good), and I can't find where I can give name to the printer.
its on one of the first screens, on the bottom left, easily missed and after it's no more possible to cnahge it. You can only make an other entry with the new name and delete the old one (AFAIR) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.org http://news.opensuse.org/2009/04/13/people-of-opensuse-jean-daniel-dodin/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You can change the name from the command line, but it is not simple. I did it once and have some notes. In my case it was for a network printer: cups type (one line): ~ # lpadmin -p cp1515n-ps-net -v "socket://bilbo.valinor" -L "Local network" -D "CP1510n in postscript mode, via network" -P /etc/cups/ppd/cp1515n-ps.ppd -E hp type: :~ # lpadmin -p cp1515n-hpijs-net -v "hp:/net/HP_Color_LaserJet_CP1515n?ip=192.168.1.3" -L "Local network" -D "CP1515n configured by hp device manager, via hpijs driver and network " - -P /etc/cups/ppd/HP_Color_LaserJet_CP1515n.ppd -E In fact, it creates a new printer using the ppd of the old one, which has to be deleted by hand later. To know the device for the existing printer, use lpstat: :~ # lpstat -v net_cp1515n-ps device for net_cp1515n-ps: socket://bilbo.valinor I think we comented on this about a year ago here :-? - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
