NVIDIA_kernel .rpm for SuSE SMP?
I notice that NVIDIA provides seperate NVIDIA_kernel rpm's for all distributions except SuSE. I'm running SuSE 7.1 with the 2.4.0-64GB-SMP kernel and am using the 1.0-1512 drivers without any problem (GeForce2 MX & XFree86 4.1.0). Should I build an rpm from the .src.rpm for my system, or have they excluded an SMP version for SuSE for a reason? The changelog lists several fixes and improvements for SMP systems since the pre 1.0 version I was using, and I'd like to get the most performance out of my system as possible. An initial attempt to install the rpm built from an rpm --rebuild of the .src.rpm failed (I believe it complained that I have the headers for a different kernel installed, oops!), so I'm wondering if I should press on with it. Thanks, David A. Riggs
NVIDIA has rpms for SuSE, they are way down at the bottom of their list. Chris Geske email: geskec@newnorth.net phone: 715-478-2777 www: jamroom.org -----Original Message----- From: David A. I guess I didn't make myself as clear as I should have. I am currently using the NVIDIA SuSE 7.1 rpms, however NVIDIA provides a seperate rpm for SMP kernels of all distributions *except* SuSE and I am running the SuSE SMP kernel. All NVIDIA releases that I can remember were this way (no SMP for SuSE only), and I am wondering if there is a reason for this. Am I not seeing the full potential of these drivers on my SMP system with the uniprocessor drivers? Many Thanks! David A. Riggs On Thursday 20 September 2001 11:12 am, Chris Geske wrote:

I believe that the SuSE rpms contain both SMP and regular kernel modules.
Last time I looked at the contents of the RPM I did see the SMP modules in
there.
