konqueror problem
SuSE 9.1/KDE 3.3.2. Anyone know how to turn off the "document relations" toolbars completely? I can't stand them showing up as a side bar and cannot find a way to turn them off. I can go into the toolbar configuration and de-select them individually but as soon as I open another tab -boom- they are all selected again and show on the side bar. Thanks, -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

Ummm... Is that different than the information you gave the first time? The Konqueror "Settings" menu has a "Toolbars" sub-menu which contains these four commands and these four only: Main Toolbar (Konqueror) Extra Toolbar (Konqueror) Location Toolbar (Konqueror) Bookmark Toolbar (Konqueror) OK. I see. If you're running Konqueror as a Web browser, not a local file system browser (which is all I use it for), then you do get this fifth command in the Toolbars sub-menu: Document Relations (Konqueror) It seems to be buggy. I'm seeing three of them (all with all there buttons disabled). The menu has four of them, one turned off. When I turn it on, I see all four copies of that toolbar. That can't be right, can it? Hi, I receive the following suggestion from Udo that work for me ( I follow the item 2 ): "It is a bug, see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94814 2 ways to stop it: Either remove the kdeaddons3-konqueror package or delete the file /opt/kde3/share/apps/khtml/kpartplugins/plugin_rellinks.rc." This does not appear on SuSe 9.1. Also on 9.2 clicking on this document relations option crashes my version of konqueror or alternatively 2 entries for document relations appears. Umm, this has nothing to do with SUSE but with the KDE version.
Also on 9.2 clicking on this document relations option crashes my version of konqueror or alternatively 2 entries for document relations appears.
Yes , you're right, it does that and I don't know why. Never used this option. But this was not the question. The question was about the appearance of this entry in the settings. -- Greetings from /bill at 169 west , 19 south. Disclaimer: Any errors in spelling, tact, or fact are transmission errors."

In my brief exploration of this feature, I was unable to find a Web site that has the information that enables those controls, hence they never crashed my Konqueror, though they did replicate.

I've seen four at once. Patrick S. has reported two. The feature is buggy (see http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94814 and http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86113).

As the orig poster I saw as many as fifteen of them. I used some of the recommendations from the bugs link and haven't tried is yet. Hi Randall, I've had nothing but trouble with the Document Relations toolbar ever since upgrading to KDE 3.3.2. Konq crashes 50% or the time when opening web pages, something I am NOT happy about, to say the least. Is there a way to disable the Document Relations toolbar from even attempting to open up? Jesse

Yes. That was the whole point of the OP's initial request. Here's where you disable that toolbar: Konqueror: Settings (menu) -> Toolbars (submenu) -> Document Relations (Konqueor)

But as I pointed out (I am the OP) when you go to the Toolbars (submenu) you may have over ten of them and they turn themselves back on without asking. I finally un-installed kdeaddons3-konqueror-3.3.2-3 using: rpm -e kdeaddons3-konqueror-3.3.2-3 and that appears to have solved the problem. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

That was my experience. The Document Relations toolbar spawns whenever it felt like it, and closing the toolbar would not stop it from coming back. I have followed your lead and uninstalled kdeaddons3-konqueror-3.3.2-3. That seems to have resolved the issue. Now, if only I can get Konq to quit crashing whenever I tell it not to allow pop-ups from the New York Times website! That's been an issue for the past two or three releases of KDE, and it only seems to be an issue with this one site. I suspect I'll just have to put up with it though. Sigh...... Jesse

Yes but the problem I am having is that I have seen as many as 12 of them under the toolbars menu. If it was only one it would be a different story. Maybe I need to contact the KDE list. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989 SuSE since 1998 * Only reply to the list please*

I see two listed in the setting, but never any on the tool-bar. I never had enabled it. I did to test and had one, then two, then crashed, then one, then disabled and had none. I probably would not have noticed it had it not been mentioned here. I use mc and xfe for files and firefox/w3m/dillo for browsing. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
