patch kernel 2.4.16 with preemptible kernel ?
Hi all, I try to patch kernel-source-2.4.16.SuSE-25.i386 with preempt-kernel-rml-2.4.16-2.patch from www.tech9.net/rml/linux, but when I patch there was an error : 1 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file linux/include/linux/sched.h.rej I try to compile the kernel too but it stopped. Does anyone succeed when compiling SuSE kernel 2.4.16 with preemptible kernel patch from Robert M. Love ? It will be great if ftp.suse.com has the RPM of compiled SuSE 7.1 kernel 2.4.16 with preemptible kernel patch. thanks in advance.. -martono-

It works with a vanilla kernel from kernel.org. What I do is create /usr/src/linux-2.4.17 download and expand 2.4.17 there copy my .config file to the directory apply the patch make config - and the preemptible kernel option appears in "processor type and features". compile and install fx -- _______________________ Courtesy of SuSE Linux AIM fyxyf
Hi All & Fraipoint & Martono, say-either of you guys run VMware with 2.4.17? I gather from a previous poster (err, forgot whom....), that Vmware will run with later kernels, which contradicts data on the Vmware site-if I read it rightly. *BFN* Greek Geek :-) 'The farmer allows walkers to cross the field for free, but the bull charges.' I have not been following this thread, so forgive me if I am off-beam here, but so far as vmware 2.x and vanilla kernels are concerned the position, as I understand it, was that versions after about 2.4.6 broke vmware in that vmware-config.pl would abort with errors. There was also a separate problem with network freezes. The vmware/kernel hacker Petr Vandrovek produced patches for /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vmmon.tar and /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vmnet.tar which fixed these problems. I have used them to compile every vanilla kernel since - including my present 2.4.17. Petr's site is : ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware I *think* that the files are now in his "obsolete" sub-directory as : I said, I think that the originals are under Petr's "Obsolete" directory. I believe that they are : vmmon-for-2.4.7-only.tar.gz vmnet-204-for-2.4.6.tar.gz Regards, Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
