Re: [SLE] How do I export X desktop to remote Win2K machine ?
Not sure about step by step, but you should be able to use vncserver (In atleast SuSE 8.1), and use a vnc client for windows.
I've used a windows vnc from SuSE and it worked great, just type vncviewer and enter the IP in the box and the password in the next box.

Actually what I want to do is run a Win2K based X server (my flavor is X-Win32) and connect to the Suse box using the XDMCP protocol on Query mode. So, I fire up X-Win32 select my linux session and I get the exact same GUI I would get as if I logged in directly on the linux box. Worked great when I did this with Redhat. Suse is giving me fits! The layout of X config files is *totally* different. Sigh ... Thats kind of why I suggested VNC, It can go both ways, connect from windows to linux, or linux to windows, letting you use the same exact screen you would see at the local monitor. It works great for me. Rob

Are you running kdm? If so, all you need to do is to set, in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes" and run SuSEconfig, and restart kdm with "rcxdm restart". If you're running other display managers you'll need to set it up differently, but on the other hand that should be identical across distributions, since it uses the core X config files from XFree86 Anders
Hi, I noticed there has been a crosspost from the originator .... this is what i got back from SUSE-KDE : EXTRACT SUSE KDE MAILLIST :

Chris,
Success. You did it dude. It all came down to finding the file kdmrc and
enabling XDMCP. Thanks!

Hi,
I succesfully managed to login on a KDE desktop on a windows 2000
machine
using Xmanager (Win2k)
All I had 2 do was enable XDMCP broadcast on my Linux. I've done this on SuSE 8.0 and 8.1
I believe the file is located somewhere in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/ filename : kdmrc In there you will have to change from false to true:
[XDMCP] Enabled = True
THEN : in /etc/X11/xdm there are several files in here : xdm-config Xaccess Xservers Xresources
here the only thing I changed was this : in xdm-config : uncomment the following : DisplayManager.requestPort: 0
and in Xaccess set this:
# First line for direct queries * # Following line for indirect queries * CHOOSER BROADCAST
THEN RESTART XSERVER
Once all that is enabled you should see your Linux box pop up in Xmanager Browser (http://www.netsarang.com/products/xmanager.html)
