Hi all, So far I've been pleasantly surprised how relatively easy it was to get 9.1 to go on a bunch of my systems. However, the sound card issue on my Dell Optiplex GX1 is still there. The CS4236B sound card is recognized alright but it doesn't get configured. Using YaST (in both alsa and oss incarnations) I get the error: "The kernel module snd-cs4236 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters." The following modules are present on my stock system: /lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-default/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236-lib.ko /lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-default/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4236.ko Trying to load them by hand wouldn't work either. # modprobe snd-cs4236 FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.4-52-default/modules.dep: No such file or directory Any suggestions as to how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Alex.

Looks like you installed kernel update (2.6.4-54) and did not reboot after that as the running kernel is 2.6.4-52
Any suggestions as to how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Try rebooting the system and reconfiguring sound in yast. Regards, -Kastus

Good eyes, Kastus! Thank you very much. That solved it of course. Best regards, Alex.

Best regards, Alex. Some years back I had a CS4232B card & had a difficult time, as well. What it needed were the DMA channels, and anything else I could glean from my then Win95 installation before it would work. It will work, but for some reason it won't go quietly.
Not much help, I am afraid, but it is the best I can recall at the moment. - -- ...CH Avoid doing business with 'The Link' ISP.
