I need help installing XPde desktop.... I have followed the installation instructions and I have gotten the desktop to load... but the problem I am having is that when it loads it loads over the desktop I am currently using.. for an example I load it up on kde. the desktop starts... but covers up kde's bar.... if you go to exit . the XPde turns off and then you have to go to exit again for kde. my question is how can I make it so XPde can be a desktop choice from the login screen I am running a freshly installed SuSE 8.1 Professional with no updates... Tia
Hey Derek, it's Mike. Glad to see you've joined this list. If you open the kde's control center and find the Login Manager, you can add XPde there. I really can't tell you exactly where that is since I'm using KDE 3.1.1 and I do believe you're using KDE 3.0.4, but It should be in the control center somewhere. On the log in manager, there is an Administrator Mode button. This allows root access so you can modify the KDM drop down menu to add XPde. If you don't have an Administrator Mode button (one again, the KDE version thing) open up a console and use "sux" to switch to root instead of "su". This allows the root to open GUI apps. Then, as root, type "/opt/kde3/bin/kcontrol". Now the control center's up as root, and you're in business. Now, in the Log In Manager, under Sessions, there's a part called Session types. Put in XPde as the new type and click add new. You should be all set. Good Luck!!! On Friday 16 May 2003 12:38 pm, Beaney, Derek wrote:
