I don't know of anyone that is trying to bash Americans. There is a difference between bashing and noting differences in economic and political culture, as well as a difference of views as to the role of language, art and culture between the US and Europe. - However, I'd also like to note that many Americans are not really - represented - by these ideas, and that we indeed to hold much stronger - ideals. Some do. some don't. All Europeans are extremely conscious of their culture and it's role, they are just more conscious of it than Americans are in general and not as likely to put it up for sale. - Unfortunately, at least the way *I* see it, Americans are being - increasingly - held hostage by large corporations. The theory that we can - make a difference - at election time is a crock. It's the corporate cach - that they follow, wherever the corporate - money carot leads them. Well, you could actually go back to a presidential election that not one European understands. Of course there is a recount of ballots if there is a discrepency in reporting the actual figure! Particularly in an electoral system where the capturing of specific strategic states/regions play such a big role as that in the make up of the electoral college. - Sorry about the rant. Just wanted to say that we don't all view profit - above - all else. And, a lot of us *do* care. No problem. I would however, suggest that we all end the debate here. It has gone far a field from where I at least put my two cents in ;-) Cheers, Brian

Yeah, I guess Tony Blair selling out the Brits to Microsoft and letting Microsoft setup a gateway to Government services that excluded people using non-microsoft browsers isn't selling out. :) The site www.fbi.gov is running Netscape-Enterprise/4.1 on Linux. The site www.whitehouse.gov is running unknown on Linux. The site www.cia.gov is running Netscape-Enterprise/4.1 on Solaris 8. The site www.house.gov is running Netscape-Enterprise/4.1 on Solaris. The site www.access.gpo.gov is running Netscape-Enterprise/3.6 on Compaq Tru64. The site www.army.mil is running WebSTAR/4.2 ID/70636 on MacOS. Most of the US Gov is hosted on UNIX and not one site denied me access with Konquror or Mozilla, but many Brits were denied access to information about themselves from their Government because Blair who is an admitted techo-illiterate jumped in bed with the big American company. I take some offense that many American's will sell out to the Big Corps. and have no idea about their culture..or what it means to be an American. Americans make no bones about it. We are a severely capitalist country and most people want to be that CEO or movie star to have the money and power they have. Some of us however would just like to build a United World free from most of the bullshit that goes on these days...and get to exploring places such as the depths of the ocean and even out into the depths of space. Again, never get self-righteous that Europeans are better then Americans. The US has saved quite a few countries in European from being a Union..but not the EU..from being united under a different symbol. We are all human .. we ALL make mistakes. Until Europeans become completely enlightened and turn into beings of pure light. Please turn off the light in the bathroom, brush your teeth, go to work and live life..human life. /end of soap box. -=Ben --=====-----=====-- mailto:ben@whack.org --=====-- If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little. -GC --=====-----=====--

I thought that was just a rumor perpetrated by Blairites ;-) Cheers, Brian
