Hello. I am running SUSE Linux 8.0 with a Compaq WL110 Wireless Card (Equivalent to the Orinoco). I had my wireless LAN up and running before I had to reinstall Linux. I accomplished this the first time through vague successes of others. Now, SuSE released a patch for the use of the Orinoco driver over the wlan-ng???? Does anybody have directions or successes for configuring this driver / card for SuSE 8.0? Thanks

Hello, Did you install the latest pcmcia package yet ? Try with your PCMCIA card installed and as root : cardctl ident and toss the ouput back to the list. and also lsmod Be sure to turn /etc/sysconfig/network/wireless WIRELESS="yes" And be sure /etc/sysconfig/hotplug has HOTPLUG_NET_DEFAULT_HARDWARE=pcmcia If you have the wireless tools installed from http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net/ftp/contrib/ you will have additional tools to help. /Dee -- W.D.McKinney (Dee) http://3519098920
Hello! After reinstalling SuSE and following my prior mehtods, I still had no success in getting my wireless lan to work. I then applied the instructions below (thanks for them) and something different happened. I normally have PCMCIA set to "external" in the config files but somehow it changed back to "kernel" on boot (maybe I forgot to save it????) BUT the wireless connection now operates. What is discouraging is if I ever need to repeat this (which I will have to after reinstalling linux) is what I did this time was different than the last.
