Probably the best way to get started would be to install a couple of source rpms from the suse cds,
Thanks but I'm looking for a method to build SUSE rpms from >foreign

Hi Chris, If I remember correctly, Lenz Grimmer is working on a HOWTO for creating SuSE specific rpms starting from source. Glad you like it, even though I am not very happy, that the link to this document has been published to the outside world. It still includes a lot of SuSE internal stuff that is of no interest for the wide public. I am working on a document that does not include this internal information, but it is not ready yet. Sigh, I wish I had more time. I figured as much, from the last sentence in the abstract, but it is a really useful document anyway. I have resolved to only place RPMs on my system now, and I've made a bunch of them, because I tend to be sort of bleeding edge. Maybe I should start putting them on my ftp site... - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.4 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE63vl3+FOexA3koIgRAvx+AJ4pfoAFA896mdIG0d4opk2QhtWIzgCglArX /quzUXN3XMwzxT0qkxJzI5g= =uUHT -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
Information on LinuxToday reveals that the VIA chipset on motherboards using AMD Athlon CPUs, running two IDE HDs and a SoundBlaster card (My Beast!) have a problem transfering large blocks of data (100MB or so). This explains why my Beast had problems copying my CD's or burning them. BIOS patch available.
