I've dbl checked the network.protocol-handler.app.mailto it's set correct and other obvious settings mailto will not work.

Anyone else run into this ? If so have a fix ?

Try going in Edit/Preferences/Applications. In the search box type "mailto", and see what action is selected.

"default" is read from gconf AFAIK. So if you set Thunderbird from its own preferences as default handler it should have appeared in Firefox automatically.

I would set it with gconf-editor. But I've just tried and it doesn't work. I'm not quite sure what's wrong unfortunately.
