corefonts.sourceforge.net has the Microsoft TTF's that they use to distribute. Also you can check out kde-look.org which had a post of a tarball of like 1000 TTF's that were freely distributable. I would also get the Bitstream fonts from the Gnome site which work fine in KDE or Gnome...http://www.gnome.org/fonts/. This should get you going. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail and any attachment is intended for anyone with an email address and does not contain information that is confidential and privileged or that is of any intrinsic value to anyone.

Well, that sucks. I don't have the original tarball the guy posted or I would put it up for public consumption. Unfortunately my ttf directory has most of the XP fonts and a few others in it and I don't want to get hounded by anyone *cough*Microsoft*cough*. :( -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail and any attachment is intended for anyone with an email address and does not contain information that is confidential and privileged or that is of any intrinsic value to anyone.

Well, I got it from Bruce tonight but when I tried to decompress it ..gzip just bitched about it not being a complete file and wouldn't do anything with it. I looked at my truetype directory and tarred then bzip2'd it's 46M. I don't know if the amount of bandwidth that I have on my shell can handle a couple thousand downloads of 50M each. Let me think about it and find out. If someone else has the bandwidth to host it in the meantime..let me know. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail and any attachment is intended for anyone with an email address and does not contain information that is confidential and privileged or that is of any intrinsic value to anyone.

Hmm... Assuming the package _can_ be unpacked somehow - would this be a package for sourceforge to host? Or some other public high bandwidth host? I do understand your reluctance to host such a big package. Best regards :o) Johnny :o)

If they are indeed "freely distributable" fonts. You need to check for any copyright infringement that may exist. If no legalities are involved why was the file pulled from the previous site? 'Better to be safe than sorry' was the way it used to be told to me - if you're going to be sorry anyway, would there be any real point in being safe?

Thanks for all the replies! As a side note to OpenOffice and fonts. I did locate Arial and other ttfs on the net. The trick that was found - check in a /opt/MainActor (on SuSE 8.2 CDs) directory and there ttf fonts were. Copy to OpenOffice/share/fonts and head to Xwindows > OpenOffice FONTS It does seem that X fonts (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts) has most of them. And of course ghostscript/fonts also. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org Info: http://www.knoppix.net
I have a 80mb fonts.zip file that is probably the one that is being refered to. I don't have a public ftp server that can handle that amount of space. If anyone has that amount of space and wants that file to make it available to everyone else, let me know offlist. Jim On Tuesday 01 July 2003 08:12 pm, Bruce Marshall wrote:
