[opensuse] Firefox wrongly says server not found
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, One of my local machines responds on "http://moria.valinor", but when I try to browse to it (there is a local dns) it instead goes to "http://www.moria.valinor", which of course does not exist. The cause is that momentarily "http://moria.valinor" has the web daemon down, so that automatically Firefox tries to outhink me and tries prefixing with www. How can I stop FF from being that "clever" and stick to what I type? Currently I powered off that moria.valinor machine, and FF does the right thing and says "unable to connect". - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. Currently I powered off that moria.valinor machine, and FF does the right thing and says "unable to connect".
Dunno about UI, but via the about:config page, you can modify that behavior, seach for "browser.fixup" there should be three entries starting with browser.fixup.alternate.* For a first try toggle the "browser.fixup.alternate.enabled" setting to "false" (boolean) simply ba double-clicking on that line. Does that "prefix" thing still happen? -- If not, either leave the "enabled" setting set to false, or replace the value of the "browser.fixup.alternate.prefix" setting (from "www." to "", emtpy string). - Yamaban. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I have just done that, thanks.

Testing the problem will have to wait till it my moria machine breaks again, though... no, wait, got it. I killed the "thttpd" process, then tried to browse to the machine page, and it failed with "unable to connect". Although FF changed the requested page to "http://moria.valinor/cgi-bin/login", which is the actual entry page, must be in the browsing history or something. I can accept this behaviour, many thanks :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
