I suggest you give Xine a try. The following RPM work out-of-the-box: http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/~jcm/skyblade/XINE-0.9.13/ You shouldn't need anything else than the RPM provided there (precompiled for i586, i686 and k6 architectures). I've used them version after version for months, no problem (SuSE 7.3, 8.0) for DVD, Mpeg, DivX and some Sorenson video codecs (unfortunately not Sorenson 3). If you really want MPlayer, I found one compiled for SuSE here : http://www6.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~rainer/rpms/ It worked, but not perfectly (something to do with fonts). - -- Thibaut Cousin email : cousin@in2p3.fr web : http://clrwww.in2p3.fr -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9mdeav1vqsTa1E4oRAs8+AKC/y1/m3aScDX8ocBxzA90+eW9enwCglTFZ gzBfSGn3hzUqpqIeC9B93VQ= =roxT -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

the same for the version on www.marcooo.de -> better then nothing, but still a few little bugs and codecs missing. -- regards, Frederik Vos VosBerg@SuSE & L4L http://www.vosberg.be

I've got the thing working by compiling the source from the source tar file. As an answer to your questions though: From the README file in the source tar file: --- Official releases, prereleases and CVS snapshots, as well as fonts for the OSD, Win32 codecs and a number of different skins for the GUI are available from the download section of our homepage at http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/dload.html Unpack the archive and choose one of the available font sizes. Then copy the font files of the corresponding size into /usr/local/share/mplayer/font/ or ~/.mplayer/font/ (or whatever you set with './configure --datadir=DIR'). MPlayer and libavcodec have builtin support for the most common audio and video formats, but some others are playable only with the Win32 DLLs or the XAnim binary plugins. Examples include WMV video, DivX with WMA audio (not normal DivX files) and Indeo. This step is not mandatory, but recommended for getting MPlayer to play more different file types. Note that Win32 codecs only work on Intel compatible PCs. Unpack the codecs archive and put the contents in a directory where MPlayer will find them. The default directory is /usr/lib/win32/ but you can change that to something else by using the '--with-win32libdir=DIR' option when you run './configure'. --- I've installed the fonts and windows codecs, and currently don't own a single movie file that doesn't play. Whether that means I got everything running or whether my collection is relatively small is hard to determine. :) Just let me know if you continue to have problems. On a sidenote: when running gmplayer (gui version), I can't increase the size. Double just increases the window, full screen just clear the screen, but the size stays the same. mplayer (command line version) works well, but only in -vo x11 mode. Anyone have any ideas as to what's causing this? Regards, Pieter Hulshoff

gtv is a simple but nice mpg video player that comes on the SuSE disks. The package name is smpeg-gtv. After it is installed, the binary name is /usr/bin/gtv. Best Regards, Keith -- LPIC-2, MCSE, N+ Sing blue silver Got spam? Get spastic http://spastic.sourceforge.net
