Re: [SLE] Sound Card Problems - SB0400 Audigy 2 Value
Just tried that and it comes back with the error: No supported PNP or PCI card found. What now? Also, I installed the asla-docs rpm, but where are they located on the system? I poked around in a few places, but couldn't find them. On Wed, 2 February 2005 8:53 pm, you wrote:

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded all the rpms available at packman.links2linux.com and ran: rpm -Uvh alsa-1.0.8-0.pm.0.x86_64.rpm
It did a few uninteresting things and then reported: /usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1194: No soundcards found... ...skipped
Now, if I look at the SuSE hardware tool, it can see the sound card and recognizes it as a "Creative Multimedia audio controller". Clearly the OS, at some level can see the sound card, but apparently Alsa can't. Does this indicate that I need to rebuild the kernel module? If so, are there any pointers I should follow or bumps I should watch out for? What else can I do to try to get this beast working? It is becoming a rather frustrating problem.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Try running as root alsaconf. It is a very good way to install a sound card.

Most likely under /usr/share/doc/packages but you can also use less on the rpm to find the files and their path as put on the system during install. They are listed at the beginning of the rpm.

Hi All, I'd only add that you can study the complete list of files in Konqueror, too, by clicking on the rpm and selecting the 'files' tab which appears next to 'description' & 'versions' etc. (towards the top.) - - Carl - -- ____________________________________________________________________ C. I guess so. It would be the alsa driver package, but I'm not sure how to build it outside the kernel tree. Maybe there will be some docs in the package to get it done. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

Pretty simple unless it has changed. There were three packages: lib, driver and utilities A ./configure, make and make install in all three directories (after loading) would install the packages.
