[opensuse] Laptop & dockingstation with second monitor
Hi, This weekend I installed OS 12.2 on my laptop as second boot. Seems to work fine. This morning, at the office, I tried to use my dockingstation with my second monitor. That seems not to work out of the box, so I'm asking for help ;-) What my docking station is : it's a device where I plug my laptop in to have more USB, a real printer-port, extra display-connectors, etc. It also has an extra power-button so you don't have to open the laptop to power it on. It's not connected via USB, but on the underside the laptop has a big connector that plugs into the docking-station. My laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD4500 series display-chip. Under Ubuntu I configured the system so I don't have to open the laptop to use my bigger screen as primary display. One problem I have though is that I manually need to change resolution when I switch from laptop-display to stand-alone display. I can live with that if needed. Under OS I went to Configure Desktop/Display and monitor. There I see the two displays and I can set the resolution. I can't set up Multiple monitors though. FWIW, the stand-alone display is connected via a displayport. So how can I set up that when I use my laptop "standalone" I use my laptop-display ? And when I dock my laptop I use my stand-alone display. In both situations using the native lcd-resolution. Thanks for any help. I use the following script. When I dock, I run 'dtop work'. Before I undock, I run 'dtop leave'. I recently modified it to turn off the second display during leave. You'll have to modify the script to specify where your second monitor is attached. You can find this info out with 'xrandr -q'. #!/bin/bash case $1 in reset) xrandr --output DP-2 --off ; xrandr --output DP-2 --auto ;; work) xrandr --output LVDS-1 --auto xrandr --output DP-2 --auto xrandr --output DP-2 --primary --output LVDS-1 --right-of DP-2 ;; proj) xrandr --output LVDS-1 --primary --output VGA-0 --right-of LVDS-1 ;; leave) xrandr --output LVDS-1 --primary --output DP-2 --off xrandr --fb 1600x900 ;; *) echo "usage [reset|work|leave]" ;; esac exit 0 -- Rich Coe rcoe@wi.rr.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks for your input. I tried some things with your info, but I still don't get any image via the displayport output. I was wondering if the DP-cable or the DP-input of the monitor were broken, so I tried a VGA-cable. That works, I have an image and I can manage settings with the monitor-setup-software. Back in Ubuntu on the same laptop, I can have an image via the displayport, so cable and monitor are OK. Any other suggestions ?
