Were you by any chance su'd from your usual login? If so, connection :0.0 is already in use. The only thing I've found to work is to run "xhost +" prior to calling su. JimW C Hamel wrote:

Use sux instead of su. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Or you can use sux and that will allow root to use the X server. Marshall

JimW <SNIP> I did finally get it installed... but I find it curious that their installation instructions have to be so heavily edited where SuSE is concerned.

"heavily"? They forgot to mention how to get past X authentication. That is one item (which I don't fits anyone's definition of 'heavily') and it is exactly the same in any linux distribution except the ones that turn off authentication. BTW, another option besides 'sux' is to run "kdesu setup -net"

<sarcasm> The need for and use of 'sux' (or other options of root addressing 0:0) probably have not been discussed here during the four or five months he has been asking question and offering comments... </sarcasm> -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711

BTW, another option besides 'sux' is to run "kdesu setup -net" Yes... "heavily" ...when it is the difference between getting an installation off the ground as opposed to just a minor glitch in an already under way installation. :-) JMHO...

Interesting..... I installed OO1.1.1 on 9.0 yesterday and used the same procedure I've been using since SO 5.2. 1) As root, run ./setup -net 2) As user, run: /opt/OpenOffice1.1.1/program/setup Done Has worked the same every time. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S.
