can not install any software now
Well, it appears I can't install anymore software. I just now tried to install gcc. I get the message: patch:glibc-1678.noarch has missing dependencies There are no alternative installed providers of glibc-devel == 2.4.31 for patch:glibc-1678-0.noarch conflict resolution keep glibc-devel delete glibc ignore this requirement just here If I choose to keep glibc-devel, it says: This would invalidate atom:glibc-devel... So it appears that glibc was updated but now I can't locate a compatible glibc-devel. I guess this all gets back to the issue that I can't add any new installation sources. This is really getting to be a pain in the .... -- Until later, Geoffrey Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Looks fine on my side actually. What might happen is that the update server is not or just partially reachable and so this results in those errors. Please open a bug with YAST2 logs attached. Ciao, Marcus

The logs you posted showed the connections to the installation source you were trying were simply timing out. That's why I posted a link to another (known good) server. You didn't post back to report whether or not the link I provided. Another possibility... could this actually be a networking or firewall problem? Carl

I'm reinstalling yet again, so we'll see how things go this time around. It's on it's 4th iteration of update, so I suspect it's about to complete the installation. I've tried at least 5 different servers (on both sides of the US and some in europe), I find it unlikely they all would be busy. Further, I can access them via a browser very easily. I think it's highly unlikely it's a firewall/network issue. This machine sits on a network with 9 other computers of various OS's, including 3 SuSE boxes and none of them have network problems. I've not attempted to add an installation source to any of them recently, but I'm assuming we're talking straight ftp/http, which does work for all these machines. When it finishes the installation, I'll run online update one more time to see if there's anything else to be patched. Then I'll attempt to install some software and see where it goes from there. -- Until later, Geoffrey Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Thanks, but my spanish is severely lacking. From your reference above, it appears that you indicate the problem may be with hyper threading/multiprocessor kernels. This laptop is not HT, nor mulitprocessor. -- Until later, Geoffrey Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin
Read in this page http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:ZEN-Update_System_problem_in_10.1 Find attach the problem in English. I discover this problem in one of two PC. I don't know if the problem is only in my HT machine, but I haven't troubles in mi AMD PC. In another discussion page I read, about you must to update suse during installation, (and this was my problem too), and not after restart. You update during or after new installation. Well, this is really bizarre. After the latest installation attempt, all seems to be working. I did nothing different the the previous installations. Following the online updates, I was able to install the wifi drivers and now have my wifi card working just fine. I had the same problem, I couldn't reach the opensuse site and if I did I would get perhaps one package and then it would lose the connection. I running 10.0 and using yast/2 and then occassionally I would try smart (gui, console, and shell mode). But over most of the weekend I had big problems over all.
