Hello piet, I don't think there is any relationship at all. This message means you have a ppp connection and the pppd is trying to increase the mru to 1500 but your peer doesn't accept the negotiation. Usually there nothing wrong with this message. a message "couldn't increase mtu to 1500 and mru to 1500" did have something to do with it. I had changed it to 1490 ( that's what I read somewhere) so now I changed it to : mtu 1524 mru 1500 and I can again make www.adaptec.com visible don't ask me why this is, but it worked. piet Pep Serrano wrote:

I did some testing on those recommendations a few years ago. When you have a fast connection to the Internet (eg Cable Modem, DSL, T1...) leave these at the default. If you are dialup, reducing the size of MTU (about 490 but I don't recall exactly) may improve your performance, especially if your dialup line is dirty. I benchmarked using a known file size stored on one of my ISPs servers (this is the site they use to test download speeds over cable when installing and repairing). My results were consistently faster with the MTU and MRU set to the default values than with the MTU and MRU at the lower value. The reason for the smaller packet sizes on a dirty line is to reduce packet retransmissions and the time taken by retransmitting. (I'm not a hardware person), but on a phone line you will occasionally drop a bit or two. The larger the packet the more chance that packet will need to be retransmitted. Reduce the packet size you increase the chance the packet will be ok. You can work all this out mathematically. Your phone company has the figures for each type of line and quality. I just brought both of them up with Konqueror 2.2.1 on SuSE 7.3 on my laptop (through the Compaq proxy servers). On 17 Apr 2002 at 22:42, PR wrote:
