Problems Changing to 19" Monitor
OS: Suse 9.0 and 9.1 Monitor: IBM 7574 Both were originally installed with smaller monitors. This is an IBM Industrial Graphics Monitor and is not listed in the YaST list of monitors. I've tried everything I can think of to define it so the GUI (KDE) sreen uses all of the screen area; currently it looks like a 17" dipaly area with rather large black borders. Character screens use all of it just fine. What am I missing here? How can I restart the GUI (so changes take effect) without rebooting the system? Thank you, Lucky Leavell

log out and log back in .. log out as if you just want to change the user .. it's more than enough, UNLESS you have installed a new graphics driver.

is there a physiical adjustment on the moniter you can make? Although my Mitsubishi Pro 2060u is in the list the install never sets it up and I must do it manually thru sax2... when I finish that , and log out and back in ... I can use the OSD adjustments to have the screen filled as far as it will go. The masq on this moniter takes up .25 inch all round ... -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit it's just an afterthought; okay ? : I think, therefore I am over-qualified.

Does that include feeding the exact monitor characteristics to YaST / Sax2? If you can establish those with a suitable web search / manual trawl, and feed them into the monitor details boxes, you *ought* to be able to get it to behave ... try googling any 'maker's plate' numbers off the back - there are lots of pages devoted to monitor specs.

Dunno ...
How can I restart the GUI (so changes take effect) without rebooting the system? Issue 'init3' and then 'init5' as root. Though does KDM not have the 'restart xserver' option on it somewhere, saving you the bother? it once did at least.
Thank you, Lucky Leavell
