[opensuse] RE: uninstalling dependencies
I've noticed something that should be easy to fix. In installing packages that dependencies are tried to be found and installed also. In order to save on space, why isn't the reverse true on uninstalls - unless required - uninstall the dependencies. What say ye ? How does you statement have anything to do with uninstalling dependencies when uninstalling a package ? -- Duaine Hechler Piano, Player Piano, Pump Organ Tuning, Servicing & Rebuilding Reed Organ Society Member Florissant, MO 63034 (314) 838-5587 dahechler@att.net www.hechlerpianoandorgan.com -- Home & Business user of Linux - 10 years -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I guess you *only* want that action when you are using KDE? Patrick, I asked Duaine "what desktop" because it happens that the gtk flavour of yast software manager has this new feature, but the kde one doesn't, AFAIK. You are right that it should not matter, but the thing is, it does. It is no fault of Duaine. This is what we mean that nowdays, when somebody asks a question about the package manager, we have to ask the user to specify whether they use gtk or qt. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Then you are out of luck. The gnome flavour of yast has that feature in 11.3, but I haven't tested it. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Depends on what you use for uninstalling. AFAIK zypper should remove dependencies if there are no other users. Philipp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Have I said otherwise ? I agree it should be the default behaviour, however it was recently implemented and may eat your babies, so it isn't "automatic" atm. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't think it should be automatic, as it can deinstall packages the user doesn't expect, e.g. stuff that got dragged in by some install long time ago and now dear to the user. Thus, you always have to be more careful with '--clean-deps' and look at the erasure list.
