If someone had approached you in real life to ask that question, would you have answered like that? Probably not. At least I hope not. But in the electronic world, where we're all shielded by distance and anonymity and computer screens, it's really easy to forget that there are human beings on the other side. I'm not saying I haven't done stuff like that, because if we're really honest, we all have at one time or another. But that doesn't make it right. In reality, there are times where each and every one of us asks a question that's totally obvious to someone else. But just because we didn't find the answer in the places we looked for or the stuff we tried, that doesn't mean that we're any less deserving of a kind response. Our response in situations like that shows what kind of a person we are. Many lists let you simply put "unsubscribe" in the subject line as a command. That's not the case with this one. So, they did what works sometimes, and in this case, it just told us all that they wanted to unsubscribe. And with the reaction they got, I don't blame them to be honest. Yep he or she could've. Never ceases to amaze me the absolute lack of manners when some people post. Not wanting to start a flame war here but really wouldn't we all be better off if somehow the "manners" filter gets employed *before* the fingers reach the keyboard and the send key/button? It really costs one nothing to take a quick pause and re-read what is about to be sent and ask yourself if "is this is how I want to be portrayed in public?" or "How would I feel if I received an email written this way?" When using a mailing list, the first part of treating everyone with a bit of respect is to learn how the mailing list works! Every mailing list I've ever used has an unsubscribe mechanism, so the OP should have looked for it, not spammed everybody. JMHO. Oh, and I notice you spammed the inbox of the person you replied to. Please don't do that to me if you reply - I *do* read this list. Cheers, Dave -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

This has been a problem for really a lot of years. I do not know of lists (maybe I am uneducated) where you can spam onto a list but not needing to be part of it. So common sense would say that you dont reply to people in general, not only because its dupe spamming, but also because everybody wanting to profit from lists contents. In fact I often get replies to only me that never show up on lists where people really are clueless. Then usually their hate ensues. It is really a pest when people replying to the list and to additional email addresses that previously sent to the list as well. But hey, they all fuss here about me saying "duuuuude" and immediately giving the information that the original poster was apparently or conveniently lacking. Instead they happily flame and hate back and like to blame random people or even just me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
To solve this issue of the reply going to both places, why can't the list be made to either send from opensuse@opensuse.org, or at least have a reply-to address of opensuse@opensuse.org? Hi Chris, let me quote from the FAQ of this mailing list: ---snip--- Q1. Why do my replies go to the original poster and not the list? A1. We do not "munge" the mail headers by inserting a "Reply-To: opensuse@opensuse.org" because it makes it more difficult subscribers to handle the mail the way they want to. Your mail client probably has a "reply" function as well as a "reply to all" or "reply to list" one; Please use the latter if you want you message to go to the list and not just to the original poster. Also, please don't complain about this on the list, it has been discussed many, many, many times in the past already. For background information see e.g. http://www.unicom.com/pw/reply-to-harmful.html ---pins--- Werner -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Oh, I'm not complaining. I just thought that since people seem to complain about the double-replies so much, I thought it could be an option if it's that huge of a deal. Personally, I solve it by having a rule that dumps everything with [opensuse] in the subject line into the same folder, so double replies doesn't clutter up my inbox. Spam the guy off the list? He wanted to get off this list. Links? That link is a link to an email address automating the unsubscription.
