gdm or kdm configuration w/ Ximian GNOME
I recently installed Ximian GNOME for SuSE 7.2. When I first installed it I told it to not change my Xwindows display manager, but after I'd done that the display manager (I assume kdm) wouldn't boot anything but KDE from all the menu enteries (for instance, I choose GNOME, I get KDE, fvwm2? I get KDE, etc. very strange behavior for a GNOME setup program to do to your display manager. :-) ) Then I tried letting it have it's way, the default, using it's edition of the gwm display manager. gwm seems to work fine, and it has the advantage of being rather speedy, but the only enteries are for GNOME and for "Xsession" (which gets me to KDE). I'd like to be able to add more xwindow managers to gdm or repair kdm's configuration for those times that I want to play with something besides KDE or GNOME... Any hints?

To repair KDM. Go to KDE control center -> system -> login manager -> session. Remove all the listed sessions (fvwn, gnome, etc) as you have found that they are broken. Then reinstall the sessions that you want. For ximian gnome you will need to add a session gnome-session, not gnome. Run SuSEconfig. That should fix KDM. -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government? DH/DSS Key - 0x7A1BEA01
