I wonder if SCO could be sued for slendering the open source community?
I wonder if SCO could be sued for slendering the open source community?
My wife thinks I could use some slendering. Seriously though, and I don't think I've piped in on this topic yet, I believe the longer IBM is quiet about this the worse it will be for SCO. I'm sure IBM isn't about to lie down for anyone - especially as insignificant a company as SCO. That being said, I'm more than a bit disturbed by Microsoft's announcement that it will license Unix code from SCO. This could be a double edged sword. While it could help Windows, it could just as easily damage Unix/Linux on the whole. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions

Microsoft's help was predictable, wish I had predicted it! They're just underwriting the lawsuit - I hope IBM has the good sense to bleed them as much as possible. -- (o< //\ Powered by SuSE Linux V_/_ Virusproof. Never happen - Microsoft's lawyers are on staff, so there's no bleeding! However, I hope IBM has the judge specifically ask SCO whether there are any unrepresented 3rd parties providing financial assistance for the suit. They have a material interest and could be forced to be present. If SCO says 'no'. they could be bled quickly! If they still are able to fight after that, then someone's lied. I wonder if someone could set up a trust fund - to provide support to anyone who can provide verifiable & admissible evidence that this whole thing is a M$ ploy (something like the Halloween papers). Reason for the trust fund - if that someone happened to be a M$ employee, they'd have a real tough time getting another job with the legal stuff M$ would throw at them.

Actually, there will still be bloodshed. Not sure how the legal system works elsewhere, but here in the USA there are more to legal fees than just lawyers. Filing fees, paying specialists to testify if it comes to that, and probably a countless number of other ways to spend money when it comes to lawsuits and the like. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions
